Tomato San Marzano DOP is a variety of tomatoes that are grown and cultivated in the area of the Sarnese nocerino region. The tomato was introduced in Europe after the discovery of america, the Spaniards initially introduced as an ornamental plant in fact, the name was changed from «tomate» a golden apple. In the 1700s it arrived in Italy, precisely as a gift from the Kingdom of Peru to the Kingdom of Naples where it was planted in the area of the municipality of San Marzano. Tomato San Marzano DOP is cultivated with techniques that do not allow for mechanization in a massive way, in fact the cultivation technique is the vertical one, the plant grows on the supports allowing the tomato to remain intact without touching the soil.
